State Department Office of Legislative Affairs Solicit Public Opinions for Editing Funeral Management Ordinance

State Department Office of Legislative Affairs(SDOLA) authorized Xinhua News Agency to publish Funeral Management Ordinance(Draft of soliciting opinions) on May 14th, the purpose is to solicit public opinions .

SDOLA indicated that, Funeral Management Ordinance which was printed in July 1997 has made important effect on strengthening funeral management, promoting funeral revolution and boosting funeral industrial development. However, as the establishment of socialism economic market system and the development of funeral industry, some new problems has been grown up: funeral business monopoly, improper cemetery which destroy ecological environment and illegal funeral activities.

The draft regulate that, remains transportation, refrigeration and cremation are served by funeral homes which should be run according to institution operating mold; the above services should be paid by our country¡¯s standard; cemetery can sell graves or niches after death certificate being provided, any pre-sold is forbidden; funeral activities have to apply laws and regulations, it¡¯s not allowed to set body or shed in public places and disturb others legal rights.
